fear is trusting in your own power

“Fear is Trusting in your own Power.” – Marianne Williamson

fear is trusting in your own power

Wow. Anyone else get goosebumps after reading that quote? I sure did. It truly resonates with me. Personally I have been one who has fought with that. Fearing my own power. Being so incredibly powerful (not the power that would take over the world for my own selfish reasons) but a power that resides within and removes lack, worry and fear, when you think of something BAM! it is manifested. It already happens and I am amazed every time.  I know, like I know, like I know how the “Laws” work yet will it (trusting that power) consume me? Will it take me over? Will I loose all that I know as “Shay” and who she has been? Maybe. But what if the new Shay is so much better, so much more of service, can assist that many more people? Who am I to hold that back? How dare I hold that back? It also ties into the Phoenix which is a symbol that is sooooo me. So near and dear to my heart and is really who I am and am becoming. That symbol has also scared me ever since it showed up in a dream of mine that woke me up out of a dead sleep not too many years ago. (I will have to tell you more about the Phoenix another time but it is a really cool story!)

This quote also reminds me of Marianne’s other quote:

  • Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

I have even re-worked it, put it into more of an “I Am” statement, present tense form and this is what is on my bathroom mirror to read everyday.

“I am powerful beyond measure.

It is my light that empowers.

I am brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous.

I am a child of the Universe.

I play BIG to serve the world.

I am enlightened.

People feel secure around me.

I shine, just as children do.

I was born to make manifest the glory of God that is within me.

As I let my own light shine, I unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

I am liberated from my own fear.

My presence automatically liberates others.”

-Marianne Williamson re-written by Shay Wheat

The thing is we all have this immense power we possess and can tap into. The question is will we allow the fear to take over and leave the power within dormant or do we allow our own Phoenix to open its wings and be reborn to take flight once again. You are that powerful and to me it feels like it’s time that more and more of us trust in that fear of our power and let the light shine. It’s time to StandUpAndLead. Lead yourself and your presence will automatically liberate others to do the same.

I look forward to your comments and emails on times you have trusted your power, what you currently fear is holding you back and how you are taking action to move forward or looking for support to move forward. We are here to Shine and I am so excited to be on this journey with you. Let’s lock arms together and make a difference.

Love and Light,

I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say "Because of you I didn't give up."

I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say “Because of you I didn’t give up.”

I am so proud of my friends!

Right now I have a number of friends who are going out into the world to make things happen. They are taking their lives into their own hands and not waiting around for what the Universe may drop into their lap.

No sirree-bob!

They are true definitions of people who StandUpAndLead in their own lives and in return it not only will manifest into something wonderful but the example they set for their kids, family, friends, co-workers, employees and people they touch is much further reaching.

They don’t settle for the Status Quo and in many cases are taking it upon themselves to change old structures that are no longer working. Looking at what doesn’t work, Masterminding, collaborating, calling in their connections and together creating a wave of change.

They are from all walks of life and backgrounds, from different states, foster homes, divorced homes and homes where parents have been happily married for 40+ years. No matter their circumstances and where they started they still have that internal drive and ambition, that “No MATTER WHAT”, can do attitude and knowing that “If it is meant to be, it is up to me”.

Granted as they travel down this path, as when we all do, it isn’t full of beautifully smelling roses. No we all get pricked by a rose thorn. The job doesn’t manifest the way we want, the speaking contract doesn’t go through, the invention direction & business plan takes a turn or business plan changes completely but that does not stop them.

Nope.

They keep moving forward. Onto Plan B.

They realize there are lots of options left. “How can I?”. They are the creators of their destiny, they dictate how they react in a situation and how they CHOOSE to move forward. For all they know it is a blessing in disguise to learn the lessons they had to learn in the moment to allow them to really appreciate and have the skills and background for the next adventure in their lives.

I am so Proud of them! They never give up. They keep moving forward. It is people like them who are the NEW leadership, the NEW movers and shakers, the NEW creators of a life worth living.

I am blessed to be surrounded by them. They inspire me. They inspired this writing today.

Thank you for being you, for making a difference in my life, a difference in the lives of others and because of that ripple effect who knows how many other lives will be touched and changed for the better forever. You are the people who will have others come up to you and say “Because of you, I didn’t give up.” If it has not happened yet…let me be the first!

Love You My Friends!

Sticky Note of the Day: “Dreams don’t come true because a person does something well once and a while…Dreams come true when someone performs with excellence day after day.” -John Maxwell

So really John, what you are saying is doing something consistently, everyday, no matter how small, is better than something big every now and then. Guess the way I look at it is “eat an apple a day vs 30 apples in one day!” (Whew that would be a TON of apples if you did it all in one day). Okay I get it.

Mr. Maxwell also speaks about how he makes sure he does 5 things, just 5 everyday. Rain or shine, holidays, birthdays, weekends, everyday, 5 things to assist him in his goals, dreams, aspirations and development of himself and his leadership. Would you like to know what he does?

John Maxwell’s Rule of 5:

1. Reads

2. Files his ideas

3. Asks Questions

4. Thinks

5. Writes

That’s it. They aren’t huge. They aren’t hard but over time it adds up…BIG TIME! He has been doing this for years and it has become a habit. He is someone who performs with excellence day after day in these 5 key areas. After knowing this it makes sense how to date he has written more than 60 books and has been featured multiple times in SUCCESS Magazine, not to mention all of his speaking engagements and training new trainers.

How does this fit into your world? What 5 things or even 1, 2, 3 things would you commit to do, everyday if it meant you could turn your dreams into reality? Are your dreams worth it? It reminds me of the old saying “It you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” These 5 things for John Maxwell are part of his plan to achieve what he desires in this lifetime.

Can’t think of anything at the moment? Use John’s 5 things. It works, just tailor it to you in terms of what to read, filing ideas/quotes/thoughts/messages/etc. Make it your own, do it consistently and in the direction of your dreams then watch them become reality.

Easy to do, easy not to do. How bad do you want it?

Dream Big my friends,

Shay

Return to Happiness: Great Friends are in it for the Long Haul

0
Today’s post is a guest post from a dear friend of mine Ryan John Phillips, creator of Return To Happiness. I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan at the beginning of this year and he is one of those friends that when you meet it feels like you have known them forever! Please take a look at the great things Ryan is doing in the world and enjoy his guest post today.
Friends are in it for the long haul

Friends are in it for the long haul

What would we do without “true” friends in our lives? I know my friends and family make up my world. What is a true friend? A true friend is a person who is in your life, that loves you unconditionally with no judgement. We all go through experiences and tests in life and it’s the people that stay by your side (no matter what) that are to be cherished and held in the highest ranks of friendship. Being a true friend back is also a very important factor in the growth of any relationship. It’s also very important not to dump too many of your issues onto friends for the benefit of their own well being. There’s such a thing as energy “givers” and “takers.” You know the people that drain you sometimes because their paradigms are stuck in negative thought patters. Our duty as friends is to help elevate, and inspire to bring out the best in others. Our own actions is what immediately draws people to us in the first place and they don’t always have to come through the words we speak, instead by the deeds we perform. I’ve been guilty in my past of flash judgments and putting down others, but ask yourself what good that does for you and the other person? How does it make your body and mind feel? Not very good in most cases and it really serves no purpose either as everything is reciprocated back through the law of compensation. My idealism’s have changed a lot in my thirties on what the true meaning of this word we call friendship is. I just do my best to be present and give good advice. When we sow good deeds to others in the form of being a great friend the reward is one that can’t be matched by anything. It’s a great to have like beings laughing joyously and also to share tears as well. That’s what makes true friendship real and so worth while. I’m sure you have one friend that sticks out in mind that is your rock. Do both of yourselves a favor today and tell he or she how much you care about them and make today one of joy, bliss and love.

God Bless RJP.

excuses are well planned lies

Don’t Try…Do!

0

The theme with a few of my clients recently seemed to stem around “try” and this is my return thought:

If you are taking action, even a little bit, everyday, you are getting closer and closer to your dreams. So in my book that is more than trying, that is doing. Give yourself credit for doing, not trying.

yoda try not do or do not there is no try
To quote Yoda “NO! Try Not! Do or Do Not, There is no try.”

Maybe it is just me but I seem to have an adverse reaction when I hear the word Try.  I will try and make it. I heard someone tried something like that and they failed. I try and I try and I try….

Ah! Stop Trying and start Doing!

Try isn’t a very empowering word is it? It feels weak and perhaps just a nice way of saying NO or an “easy” way to have an excuse. What is an excuse?
I recently saw this picture that sums up the physical reaction I feel.

excuses are well planned lies

Stop lying to yourself and to the ones you try with.
Whenever I hear try from someone it is pretty much a “No” in my book and if they show up, or come through then it is a pleasant surprise! Otherwise I don’t expect whatever they are trying” to do will actually come to fruition.

So how do we change our language to not incorporate such a weak word, that really doesn’t give us power and essentially is a nice way of saying “no”, aka not speaking our truth and essentially is an excuses or Lie?

1. If you really want to see how often you say the word “try“, keep a piece of paper with you and for a week (or maybe you will get the lesson in a day) every time you hear the word try and every time you hear yourself say try mark it down on the paper. One column for you and one column for hearing the word from others.

2. Now that you are aware of the word try, catch yourself either before you say it or right after you say it and replace it with a new word, such as “will” or “will not”. Yes you will be forced to make a decision here. Instead of “I will try to make the game tonight”, change to “I (will/will not) make it to the game tonight”. If you can’t quite make it there start with “As of right now it does not appear I will make the game, but if anything changes I will let you know”.  Essentially you are almost saying the same thing as try but this way is being more upfront that you are leaning towards the “will not” vs “will” show up. Granted if you can go straight to “will or will not” both you and the other person in the situation will know exactly where you stand.

Now you are not a horrible person if you say try but I would encourage you to test yourself as well as start building the intestinal fortitude to speak your truth. You don’t have to go to every event, and help everyone with everything. By taking try out of your vocabulary it forces you to make decision. When you make decisions you are no longer “wishy-washy”, you have strength and direction. Trust me, people’s feelings won’t be as hurt if you say you won’t do something vs if you say you will try and then don’t. You will be more loved and respected because people will know where you stand and you will know that for your self as well. There is strength in that knowledge.

Looking forward to enjoying a world that removes the word TRY and speaks their truth.

Now go out, take action and make things happen!

All the best,

Shay

i am in the moment most when i am rendering service

Being in “The Moment”

1

i am in the moment most when i am rendering service This morning I had the pleasure of speaking with my good friend, Ryan John Phillips, creator of the “Return to Happiness” documentary, book and movement. We haven’t spoken for a few days so in our “catching up” Ryan said the following… “You know Shay, I am in the moment most, when I am rendering service.” After he said it we both had a “Whoa” feeling. That statement just seemed to resonate at such a high level that it physically made me sit back in my chair with an immediate reply of “Wow Ryan, that is good.”

So what does it mean to be “in the moment”? For me, it is being aware and conscious of your self and your surroundings. To be grounded in the here and NOW, not worrying about the future or the past, and taking a look at all the greatness that surrounds you. It is a feeling of calmness (vs the chaos most may be used to). Too many times we get caught up in the “what ifs” in life. What if I don’t get the promotion, what if I miss my flight, what if I _______ (fill in the blank). It is amazing how that blank is usually filled with something negative. Not too often do I hear “What if I change someones life for the better today”.

Why? Sadly we are programmed more negatively than positively with all the media, news, distractions, etc in the world to keep us in fear and continuing the thoughts of lack. That is one of the huge driving factors of starting StandUpAndLead. It is to assist in being in the moment, shifting consciousness and awareness to see the good that surrounds us vs looking at the negative. There will always be both, but life is a TON more fun to live in a positive space vs a negative one (if you find yourself in a negative space, try positive for a day…if you don’t like it you can always go back :-) ).

What being of service and being in the moment allows you to do is start that shift of turning around the negative “what ifs” in life to seeing the good in the world, how you can help and as the great Zig Ziglar has always said “If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want.” By being in the moment, you are aware of those opportunities to be of service, assist others and through the Law of Reciprocity more good will come to you in greater abundance.

Enjoy “The Moment”.

Shay

The 3Rs: Recharge, Relax and Reflect

The 3 R’s: Recharge – Relax – Reflect

0
The 3Rs: Recharge, Relax and Reflect

The 3Rs: Recharge, Relax and Reflect

Ah Yes, The 3Rs….no not Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (even though that is a good one too) but my 3Rs are:

Recharge
Relax
Reflect

Today I had someone ask me if I had something fun and exciting happening this beautiful Sunday. My answer…”Today is a lazy Sunday, been busy this past month, time for some down time. Recharge, Relax, Reflect.” It was totally in the moment but it rang so true that I thought I would share it with you.

But first you need a beautiful picture to go with the mood of the words right? This is the view from my friend’s place up in Canada. How wonderful to wake up to this landscape! A place that one can truly Recharge – Relax – Reflect. Although it isn’t necessary to be in a place like this to still incorporate the 3Rs into your world.

What does it mean to:
Recharge?
Restore an electric charge by connecting to a device that draws power from another source.

Relax?
Make or become less tense or anxious. Rest or engage in an enjoyable activity so as to become less tired or anxious.

Reflect?
(of a surface or body) Throw back (heat, light, or sound) without absorbing it.
Great, so now that we know the definitions, how do we incorporate it into our lives?
Many of us are “non-stop” always moving, having to take care of something or someone, right? I am all for being productive and making things happen but I also realize that we live in a world of opposites, yin and yang, light and dark, up and down, stop and go. Thus if we are in the go-go-go phase and never incorporate a stop the universe will always make sure we take one. When that happens it is usually a stop that we are not very happy with because it is usually a stop (cold/flu/injury/etc)  that will take us out of the game for a longer period of time than if we incorporated the stop ourselves.

Thus the reason for a day of Recharge – Relax – Reflect. This is a “stop” in my world of go-go-go. There are many ways of Recharging, Relaxing and Reflecting. Some like to read, travel, go snowboarding or other outdoor activities, sit in the park, visit friends, shop, yoga, meditate, take a bubble bath, walk around the block, heck even zoning out in front of the TV/Hulu/Netflix if you have a problem “turning off your brain” is an option.  Whatever options work for you, work on incorporating it into you weekly/monthly and if you are really making things happen, daily life and routine.

The Reflecting part is the section most people forget. They like the Recharge and Relax since it is fun, easy and pretty painless. The Reflecting part takes a little more work and if you are already a go-go-go person more work after some Relaxation and Recharging doesn’t always seem like the best thing to do. However, Reflecting will give you the greatest ROI down the road.

Why?

Perhaps you are doing things that could be done faster, easier and with less effort by “tweaking” a few things to make your processes better. Perhaps there are things and people in your world who are no longer going in the same direction as you are and it is time that they become a more part-time or every-once-n-awhile friend. Although how are you to discover this if you don’t take time to Reflect upon what is working and what is not. By Recharging and Relaxing first it gives our brain an opportunity to “chill”, remove it’s self from the situation or circumstances of life to give us a renewed perspective. Also it will ramp us back up into the go-go-go.

So what did I do today to Recharge-Relax-Reflect?
Worked out, Meditated, Watched some Hulu (since I haven’t had a TV for 10+yrs), Looked at some of my new Rocks (I got some pretty nice ones that I will be creating gifts with), Read a little about Reflexology & a bit from “Think and Grow Rich”, Had dinner with my family and played with my 3 yr old Nephew, Spoke with my friend from Canada that started my Reflecting process, Looked at and added to my White Board of Ideas/Projects/To-Do’s/Etc, and Wrote out the 3R’s. Living what I teach and teaching what I learn.

Hope this sparks and ignites within you the reminder to take time for the 3Rs.

Look forward to hearing your comments and emails on what you do to Recharge-Relax-Reflect.

Enjoy!!!

Actions toward or involving others that reflect the integrity of the person you want to be.

Accountability Partners RULE

0
Actions toward or involving others that reflect the integrity of the person you want to be.

Actions toward or involving others that reflect the integrity of the person you want to be.

Partner: One associated with another especially in an action.

Partner: One associated with another especially in an action.

Yesterday I had the honor of spending some “catch up time” with a friend and fellow energetic, young professional. We ended up chatting for about 2 ½ hours about life, what is new and exciting, new things we have learned, what is working and what is not in both our personal and professional worlds. By the end we came to the realization that we deserve and desire some assistance in order to get us to the next level in our lives. So what better way to do that than to become each other’s “Accountability Partner”.

What does that really mean though?
Accountability: Actions toward or involving others that reflect the integrity of the person you want to be.
Partner: One associated with another especially in an action.

We are both Entrepreneurs who have drive and ambition to get things done but we were both lacking in one particular area right now that we desire to be more consistent in. Knowing that it takes at least 21 days to form a new habit we decided to help each other out. So we both pull out our phones, open the calendar and SCHEDULE time to Meditate at 7am every morning. Then to hold each other accountable we will call or text afterwards.

Today was day one and even though my friend had a 7am meeting this morning he did not let that stop him. Nope, he got up a little earlier, got in his Meditation time, went to his meeting and sent me a text. As for me, I had my phone alarm set for a 6am wakeup to find that my body naturally woke me up at 7am! What happened? Not sure but somehow my phone died during the evening but because I set the intention and have someone to be accountable to, my internal alarm clock didn’t let me down. I too finished my Meditation and sent off my text.

It amazes me how sometimes we know we “should do” something like Meditate, eat foods that nourish our bodies or work out, and when we do it feel amazing afterwards, it is just “getting there and doing it” that seems to take the most effort. This is where your Accountability Partner comes in and assists you in staying on path and purpose with your goals and dreams. Coaches are also outstanding Accountability Partners especially since you have a financial tie and thus a motivator to do the work.

So what is it for you that you feel is something you know you “should” be doing but are not? Something that you know is a game changer in your life that when you do it consistently you KNOW will bring abundance into your world like you could never imagine? Great now that you have that in your mind, find a friend, mentor, coach, someone who can assist you in keeping you accountable. Please also feel free to reach out to me or the StandUpAndLead community on facebook http://www.facebook.com/StandUpAndLead .

I look forward to hearing how your life starts to change and blossom for the better after accomplishing your minimum of 21 day, habit changer.

Much Love,
Shay
