Vision so clear, fears become irrelevant

Make Your Vision So Clear That Your Fears Become Irrelevant

I recently attended an event by Brendon Burchard called “High Performance Academy”.

The above statement so rings true for me after that event. It was an opportunity for me to re-engage my life and business and get back in touch with my vision and dreams. When you have no vision and no goal, how do you know what you are aiming for? How do you take the next best step in turning your dreams into reality? How do you even remember what your dreams are if you don’t have a vision?

It is so easy to get lost in the everyday routine of life and lose sight of what drives you, what you want to accomplish and what things on your Live List you want to see and do before you kick the bucket. It is why I love attending events. They allow me to re-engage and help keep me moving forward. Events also allow me to connect with other like-minded individuals who are out there making a difference in the world. That alone is INSPIRING and depending on someone else’s vision and how big it is, that might just kick you in the booty to step up your game as well.

After all when the vision is clear, no fear will stop you from achieving it.

Action Step: grab a pen and paper and jot down your vision. Dream again. Make it so clear that you can see it and practically touch it, it is so real.
Then feel free to comment below. You never know, your vision may just be the catalyst for another to step up their game.

Many blessings,

Shay

Axtell Park 8th graders’ act of kindness warms hearts

Recent story was just brought to my attention.

A couple of 8th grade, young women, decided to make a difference in the lives of their fellow students at school.

Take a look at this video:

A Simple act of kindness gone viral.
The story was even picked up on a local news station.

What can you do to pay it forward?

There is power in a sticky note.

Help me share their story.

Leaders & Starting a Movement

0

Derek Sivers’ TedTalk on How to Start a Movement
With help from some surprising footage, Derek Sivers explains how movements really get started. (Hint: it takes two.)

1. A leader needs the guts to stand out and be ridiculed but be easy to follow as well.

2. 1st follower has the most crucial role: They show everyone else how to follow.
In this step the Leader must embrace the 1st follower as an equal. It is no longer about the leader, it is about them…plural.

3. The 1st follower is the most underestimated one in leadership. They are the ones who call on more followers. The 1st follower is the one that transforms the 1st nut into a leader.

4. Enter in the 2nd follower and you start to have a crowd.
A Movement must be public. It is important to not just show the leader but the followers because New followers emulate the followers and not the leader.

5. You start having more followers and more followers and thus momentum and then a tipping point thus a MOVEMENT!

6. As more people join in, it is less risky. Those that were sitting on the fence before have no reason not to. They won’t stand out, they won’t be ridiculed but they will be part of the in crowd if they hurry.

7. Then you start to get the ones who like to stick with the crowd because they will be ridiculed for not being a part of it.

Recap:

1. If you are the 1st one, remember to treat and nurture your 1st followers and treat them as equals.

2. Leadership is often over-glorified. Yes it takes one to Stand Up And Lead but it is the 1st few followers who transform the “lone nut” into a leader.

Have the courage to follow and show others to follow. When you find a “lone nut” doing something great, have the guts to stand up and join in.

I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say "Because of you I didn't give up."

Plan B, Status Quo, No Matter What!

I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say "Because of you I didn't give up."

I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say “Because of you I didn’t give up.”

I am so proud of my friends!

Right now I have a number of friends who are going out into the world to make things happen. They are taking their lives into their own hands and not waiting around for what the Universe may drop into their lap.

No sirree-bob!

They are true definitions of people who StandUpAndLead in their own lives and in return it not only will manifest into something wonderful but the example they set for their kids, family, friends, co-workers, employees and people they touch is much further reaching.

They don’t settle for the Status Quo and in many cases are taking it upon themselves to change old structures that are no longer working. Looking at what doesn’t work, Masterminding, collaborating, calling in their connections and together creating a wave of change.

They are from all walks of life and backgrounds, from different states, foster homes, divorced homes and homes where parents have been happily married for 40+ years. No matter their circumstances and where they started they still have that internal drive and ambition, that “No MATTER WHAT”, can do attitude and knowing that “If it is meant to be, it is up to me”.

Granted as they travel down this path, as when we all do, it isn’t full of beautifully smelling roses. No we all get pricked by a rose thorn. The job doesn’t manifest the way we want, the speaking contract doesn’t go through, the invention direction & business plan takes a turn or business plan changes completely but that does not stop them.

Nope.

They keep moving forward. Onto Plan B.

They realize there are lots of options left. “How can I?”. They are the creators of their destiny, they dictate how they react in a situation and how they CHOOSE to move forward. For all they know it is a blessing in disguise to learn the lessons they had to learn in the moment to allow them to really appreciate and have the skills and background for the next adventure in their lives.

I am so Proud of them! They never give up. They keep moving forward. It is people like them who are the NEW leadership, the NEW movers and shakers, the NEW creators of a life worth living.

I am blessed to be surrounded by them. They inspire me. They inspired this writing today.

Thank you for being you, for making a difference in my life, a difference in the lives of others and because of that ripple effect who knows how many other lives will be touched and changed for the better forever. You are the people who will have others come up to you and say “Because of you, I didn’t give up.” If it has not happened yet…let me be the first!

Love You My Friends!

What others think about you ISN'T important...what you think about yourself means EVERYTHING!

What others Think vs What you Think

What others think about you ISN'T important...what you think about yourself means EVERYTHING!

What others think about you ISN’T important…what you think about yourself means EVERYTHING!

Sticky Note of the Day: “What others think about you ISN’T important…what you think about yourself means EVERYTHING!”

When in our developmental cycle of growing up do we learn that other people’s opinion of us is more important than how we feel, think and see ourselves? If you look at a baby or young child they are so happy and excited to learn and discover new things about themselves and their environment (oh look, at toe!)  that they really don’t seem all that interested in what we (and others) think about them finding their toe.

However somewhere in that growing up process we “Learn” that we are to put others thoughts, feelings, and desires above our own. We stop listening to our Gut and our intuition and start “people pleasing”.

WHY!!??

What does that do for us? Where has it taken us? Granted I am not saying do things out of spite just to hurt another but if you truly want to (or not want to) do something why not go after it. Why do we feel like we don’t deserve our dreams because it may inconvenience someone else for the time being?

I feel it is time for us to Stand Up And Lead ourselves again. Discover new things and create new experiences. They don’t have to be huge and drastic but why not go to the beach one weekend, perhaps by yourself because you have had a internal feeling or “calling” to go. You are always in choice and you always have options. It is time to stop making excuses and FIND A WAY to make it happen. Ask friends and family if they can watch the kids for the day or a few hours even. Save your Starbucks money for a week and use the money for gas to make that trip to the beach.

W.I.T.=Whatever it Takes

W.I.T. to start believing in you again and not allowing that gripping hold of what others MIGHT be thinking about you. You have one life to live so why not start living it! The time is now. Make it happen. I believe in you. You have the means to change your life. The real question is…are you ready?

I look forward to seeing you on your own “beach” whatever that may mean for you.

Much Love,

Shay

Face Your Fears

Face Your Fears…It’s the New Normal

0
Face Your Fears

Face Your Fears

“When I get scared, my 1st instinct is to run away or shut my eyes real tight or both at the same time. But if you run around with your eyes closed, not only do you bump into walls a lot, you miss out on seeing some pretty amazing stuff. So what I am learning is to face my fears head on. I don’t run anymore and I don’t cover my eyes.  I am embracing my fears as they are the seeds of a new life. They bring new joys and new dreams. When I look my fears straight in the eye…I see… My FUTURE.”

- Character Goldie Clemmons from TV show The New Normal

Love that quote!

Probably because I can relate to it, have experienced it and to this day work on facing my fears head on with my eyes open. It isn’t easy but the BEST experiences I have had thus far have come from doing things that scared me and were “outside my box”.

“I am embracing my fears as they are the seeds of a new life.” WOW! How powerful! Just imagine if you were to shift your thoughts to embrace your fears and see them as seeds of a new life. How would your life change? What if you did it for a month, a week or even a day? Can you imagine what experiences you would have? If you think of the old adage “Fear=False Evidence Appearing Real” then who’s to say that Fear can’t be turned into Following Experiences Appreciating Reality. Now that is my kind of FEAR!

So as you go through your day today and into tomorrow, face your FEARs, follow those experiences and appreciate the reality of those seeds of a new life that you are creating for yourself. You Deserve it! Now go make it happen! I will see you at the top and look forward to swapping our NEW FEAR stories because that deserves to be the New Normal.

Your fellow NEW FEAR Normal friend,

Shay Wheat

Find out what you do well then find a way to do that for the rest of your life.

What do you do well?

0

Find out what you do well then find a way to do that for the rest of your life. Sticky note for today:

Find out what you do WELL then find a way to do that for the rest of your life.

Yesterday I had an amazing meeting with 2 leaders making a difference in our school system. One was telling a story about a young woman, from a tough neighborhood and school that had been receiving D’s and F’s on her report card in high school. Their organization had gone in with a health program and the on-site coordinator and this young woman really connected on a mentor-mentee basis. It was in that class that the student received A’s across the board. This program was assisting students to find out what they did well and encouraged them to go after their dreams. This student ended up getting a scholarship after a panel interview to go to culinary school.

How POWERFUL is that!

What our school system deemed as a child who was below average in school found something, was encouraged and guided toward the thing that she was passionate about and she went after it!

What do you do well? What are you passionate about? What would you do if time and money were no object…what would you be doing tomorrow? What is your hobby? What would you be doing the rest of your life if you got paid for it or not? Whatever that is (and you may deserve to practice “dreaming” again) do it, start it, pick it back up again, do it in your free time, in your spare time and who knows…it may just become your new profession.

Dream BIG my friends!

Shay

H.A.R.T. Balloon Release does not tolerate bullying!

0

Do you know what is happening in your local community?

A great friend of mine introduced me to an event that was happening at the local State College, Sacramento State, and asked if I would like to attend.

Sure, what are we supporting?

IMAG0514

This is what she sent me…

H.A.R.T. Balloon Release

As human beings, we subconsciously keep a record of wrongs that has been done to us in the past. The act of holding a grudge is a habit by human nature; unaware of the negative effect it can have in life.

The H.A.R.T Balloon Release event is purposed for the public to take a step toward becoming a community that will not tolerate bullying. Prior to the main event of releasing the H.A.R.T. balloons, the public is welcome to stop by the Have H.A.R.T. booth to write something he or she desires to let go of. Whether it is a specific name, a personal reflection, or a negative memory, the idea is to identify an unhealthy resentment and have a physical written form of it..

Those who participate will be asked to return to the booth at 3pm, tie their piece of paper to a balloon, and release it along with all the other attendees. Releasing the balloon symbolizes being free of the written issue and moving on in life without any burdens.

SOLD! I am sooo In!

shay and alexis balloon release

Not only am I about supporting an awesome group of young, purpose driven individuals who rally together for the good of human kind but to have an opportunity for me to also release things that burden me is right up my alley.

So off we went to the Sac State campus, ready to write down our burdens, connect with like-minded individuals and bring awareness to those around us. There was probably 50+ balloons and over 100 people in attendance on the quad that afternoon.

Messages written, tied onto the balloons and ready for lift off!

IMAG0521

It was an amazing feeling to physically write down (getting it out of your head, onto paper) a fear, set back, something that is holding you back and/or whatever it is you are wanting to release, tie it to a balloon,  LET IT GO, and watch it float away. The feeling I had afterwards was incredibly a sense of calm, ease and by the time we got back in our car to head home I was full of life and energy…bouncing in the car to the music and being silly. It was a symbolic gesture that had an emotional and physical release for me and one “tool” I had forgotten was so powerful.

My hope for sharing this with you today is to open your eyes to other “tools” of assisting you to release things in your world that are no longer serving you. Whether it be a balloon release with the community just as we did (feel free to create your own group too!), writing it down on paper and burning it (remember safety first), or connecting with a coach/councilor/mentor/friend there are many options. Also there are many resources (we heard about this from www.Sacramento365.com ) locally that can inform you of events and ways to be involved in your community.

Wishing you all the best on this beautiful day and never stop working on you!

From 16 yr old Ashley Monroe: My Message to Everyone at My School: ‘You’re Beautiful’

1

I recently saw this AMAZING post of a young woman who is making a difference in her school by simply using Sticky Notes and a wonderfully positive message…see orginal post here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ashley-monroe/my-message-to-everyone-at_b_2563941.html

From Ashley Monroe.
16-year-old from Massachusetts

This is a picture of something I did at my school last year. I wrote out 1,986 sticky notes. Each said, “You’re beautiful,” and I stuck one to every locker in my entire school.
r-YOUREBEAUTIFUL-large570

It was almost unbearable to listen people put themselves down every day. They would say things like, “I’m ugly” or “No one likes me.” To me, that wasn’t the truth. For at least one day, I wanted everyone to know that someone thought they were beautiful.

It took me over 6 hours to write all of the notes, and an hour to stick them with the help of one other friend. It wasn’t my original plan to tell people that I had done it, but word got out after I had been called to the Dean’s office. They found me through the school’s video surveillance system.

After being sat down in the office and explaining everything that had happened, there was talk of a possible 3-day suspension from school. When I went back to my classroom, my teacher asked me what they said, and I told her. This is how the rest of the students found out. Throughout the entire day word of the possible suspension circulated, and a group of students came together and formed a petition. They passed the petition around school.

In the end, it had over 600 signatures, from both students AND faculty.

It amazed me that people would do that for me. For one day, I truly felt beautiful. And for one day, I managed to make every other kid in my school feel beautiful, as well.

A few days later, after the incident was not as new, a complete stranger approached me. What she said to me was shocking.

“That day, I was planning on killing myself. I had given up completely on society, but because of you I didn’t. You gave me hope. Thank you.”

What’s more amazing than that is the fact that today she has become one of my best friends.

Thank you Ashley for being a leader in your school and for changing the lives of many.
You are the epitome of a “Stand Up And Lead” Leader.
Much Love,
Shay

Masks…Wear for fun or for a Lifetime?

0

mardi gra mask

The other day I was celebrating my good friend’s birthday and we went into a costume store to try on some Masks. We were having a really good time trying on ones with feathers, ones you tie behind your head, ones you hold onto, ones with tons of sparkle, different colors, etc. All of which gave us different looks depending on the mask we tried on. Later that evening after looking at our pictures and remembering the fun filled day, I got to thinking about people wearing their own masks in everyday life.

Have you ever met someone who when you met them they were fun, outgoing, nice, sociable  (their “going out” mask) then when you start to get to REALLY know them it seems like that mask flies off and you start to see their true colors? That recently happened to one of my clients. To the world her friend treated everyone one way and then behind closed doors would talk and gossip and demean the very person they just saw! It threw my client for a loop! She didn’t know 1) how to deal with this person now with this information and 2) if she really wanted to still be associated with them now that she saw the Mask come off.

Let’s take it from a different perspective. Are there Masks that you may wear in your own life? Perhaps you are a collector of Masks, both figuratively and/or literally. Why do you feel that is? What is it about the Masks that comfort you or why do you feel drawn to them? In my own life, my family had a wall of Masks, literally from all over the world. They were beautiful, exotic, and each had their own story associated with them. It wasn’t until things got “rocky” that an “Ah-Ha” moment showed up and the Masks were a part of the way things were dealt with and portrayed.  To the outside world it was one way, peaceful and serene, on the inside it was a rollercoaster full of huge ups and downs that created weird actions and responses that never made any sense. It wasn’t until the literal masks on the wall were taken a look at that the figurative Masks changed and started to be removed. I feel that sometimes we may require the Masks to keep us safe but I also feel that we are here to be our true, authentic self and in order to really be in that moment, that present moment, we must take off all the Masks. I know for myself that when I am my true authentic self, yes I have moments of sheer brilliance right next to moments of feeling like I want to fall on the floor and roll into a ball. That’s part of the human experience. We are all human, experiencing the world through our own lenses. Some of us have many Masks and it seems like we keep collecting more, others of us are peeling off the Masks and dealing with them one by one.

If you are one of the later, I congratulate you on doing the work. It isn’t always easy but knowing what has transpired in my life after the removal of Masks…I wouldn’t change it for the world. It is well worth it! Keep it up and know that there are people who love you regardless of which Mask you are working to remove right now and others who will probably leave your world because they choose to keep their Mask on and you just will no longer be able to relate to one another. That’s okay because the direction you are heading and the people who will show up in their place will be worth the work.

I applauded you. Give yourself credit. You deserve to be Mask Free!

With Love & Gratitude,

Shay Wheat
