Sticky Note of the Day: “Dreams don’t come true because a person does something well once and a while…Dreams come true when someone performs with excellence day after day.” -John Maxwell

So really John, what you are saying is doing something consistently, everyday, no matter how small, is better than something big every now and then. Guess the way I look at it is “eat an apple a day vs 30 apples in one day!” (Whew that would be a TON of apples if you did it all in one day). Okay I get it.

Mr. Maxwell also speaks about how he makes sure he does 5 things, just 5 everyday. Rain or shine, holidays, birthdays, weekends, everyday, 5 things to assist him in his goals, dreams, aspirations and development of himself and his leadership. Would you like to know what he does?

John Maxwell’s Rule of 5:

1. Reads

2. Files his ideas

3. Asks Questions

4. Thinks

5. Writes

That’s it. They aren’t huge. They aren’t hard but over time it adds up…BIG TIME! He has been doing this for years and it has become a habit. He is someone who performs with excellence day after day in these 5 key areas. After knowing this it makes sense how to date he has written more than 60 books and has been featured multiple times in SUCCESS Magazine, not to mention all of his speaking engagements and training new trainers.

How does this fit into your world? What 5 things or even 1, 2, 3 things would you commit to do, everyday if it meant you could turn your dreams into reality? Are your dreams worth it? It reminds me of the old saying “It you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” These 5 things for John Maxwell are part of his plan to achieve what he desires in this lifetime.

Can’t think of anything at the moment? Use John’s 5 things. It works, just tailor it to you in terms of what to read, filing ideas/quotes/thoughts/messages/etc. Make it your own, do it consistently and in the direction of your dreams then watch them become reality.

Easy to do, easy not to do. How bad do you want it?

Dream Big my friends,

Shay

Work-a-holic or Work-a-frolic & Mr. John Maxwell

Last year, through a series of synchronistic events, I had the honor and privilege of meeting a true leader of leaders, Mr. John Maxwell.
A group of us were invited to Washington where we thought we were going to listen to some peers of ours train & coach. Unbeknownst to the 70 of us, sitting in a Porsche dealership, right next to Ferrari, walks in John Maxwell!
One of the key messages I receive from John that day is he is a Work-a-frolic vs a Workaholic. John “plays” when he speaks, coaches, trains, & writes his books. He enjoys his position in life thoroughly. He mention “Do everything for passion. Do it because you love it” that’s a reason you deserve to do anything in life.

Those of you who have seen John speak probably heard him say “My name is John and I’m your friend.” I noticed he would say this anytime he got stuck or lost track of where he was in his talk or anytime just to reset himself. John has been doing 100 talks a year since 1976 & still stumbles every once and awhile! John too is a person just like us & his passion shines through. You can tell he’s full of fun, loving energy, that he just loves what he gets to do & share with the world. He is a true work-a-frolic, working & enjoying the process along the way.

So how do we take this into our own world right?
For that we deserve to ask a few questions to get us started.

What are you passionate about?
If time & money weren’t stopping you what would you be doing?
What activity puts a huge smile on your face?
What gets your brain motivated to uncover the mysteries of (fill in the blank)?

According to John, 90% of people are “road blocked” and lack passion. They have no energy and no fire because they have no passion. It is a process & journey within to find that spark, that fire, that thing you would do whether you got paid for it or not.

My take away action step for you would be to start with the questions above, perhaps Journal, write or talk it out with a friend or coach. Whatever you decide to do make sure that you take some sort of action today. Don’t put it off until tomorrow.

At the very least, I hope you insert in some “frolic” time into your work today.

Your fellow work-a-frolic,
Shay

” The hirer you want to climb, the more you need leadership. The greater the impact you want to make, a greater your influence needs to be.” – John Maxwell, Author of “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” I had the pleasure of mentoring 4 juniors at a local high school for a few months and this was their gift to me. Thank you ladies for making an impact and influencing my world.
