fear is trusting in your own power

“Fear is Trusting in your own Power.” – Marianne Williamson

Wow. Anyone else get goosebumps after reading that quote? I sure did. It truly resonates with me. Personally I have been one who has fought with that. Fearing my own power. Being so incredibly powerful (not the power that would take over the world for my own selfish reasons) but a power that resides within and removes lack, worry and fear, when you think of something BAM! it is manifested. It already happens and I am amazed every time.  I know, like I know, like I know how the “Laws” work yet will it (trusting that power) consume me? Will it take me over? Will I loose all that I know as “Shay” and who she has been? Maybe. But what if the new Shay is so much better, so much more of service, can assist that many more people? Who am I to hold that back? How dare I hold that back? It also ties into the Phoenix which is a symbol that is sooooo me. So near and dear to my heart and is really who I am and am becoming. That symbol has also scared me ever since it showed up in a dream of mine that woke me up out of a dead sleep not too many years ago. (I will have to tell you more about the Phoenix another time but it is a really cool story!)

This quote also reminds me of Marianne’s other quote:

  • Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

I have even re-worked it, put it into more of an “I Am” statement, present tense form and this is what is on my bathroom mirror to read everyday.

“I am powerful beyond measure.

It is my light that empowers.

I am brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous.

I am a child of the Universe.

I play BIG to serve the world.

I am enlightened.

People feel secure around me.

I shine, just as children do.

I was born to make manifest the glory of God that is within me.

As I let my own light shine, I unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

I am liberated from my own fear.

My presence automatically liberates others.”

-Marianne Williamson re-written by Shay Wheat

The thing is we all have this immense power we possess and can tap into. The question is will we allow the fear to take over and leave the power within dormant or do we allow our own Phoenix to open its wings and be reborn to take flight once again. You are that powerful and to me it feels like it’s time that more and more of us trust in that fear of our power and let the light shine. It’s time to StandUpAndLead. Lead yourself and your presence will automatically liberate others to do the same.

I look forward to your comments and emails on times you have trusted your power, what you currently fear is holding you back and how you are taking action to move forward or looking for support to move forward. We are here to Shine and I am so excited to be on this journey with you. Let’s lock arms together and make a difference.

Love and Light,

Shay Wheat

Face Your Fears

Face Your Fears…It’s the New Normal

Face Your Fears

Face Your Fears

“When I get scared, my 1st instinct is to run away or shut my eyes real tight or both at the same time. But if you run around with your eyes closed, not only do you bump into walls a lot, you miss out on seeing some pretty amazing stuff. So what I am learning is to face my fears head on. I don’t run anymore and I don’t cover my eyes.  I am embracing my fears as they are the seeds of a new life. They bring new joys and new dreams. When I look my fears straight in the eye…I see… My FUTURE.”

- Character Goldie Clemmons from TV show The New Normal

Love that quote!

Probably because I can relate to it, have experienced it and to this day work on facing my fears head on with my eyes open. It isn’t easy but the BEST experiences I have had thus far have come from doing things that scared me and were “outside my box”.

“I am embracing my fears as they are the seeds of a new life.” WOW! How powerful! Just imagine if you were to shift your thoughts to embrace your fears and see them as seeds of a new life. How would your life change? What if you did it for a month, a week or even a day? Can you imagine what experiences you would have? If you think of the old adage “Fear=False Evidence Appearing Real” then who’s to say that Fear can’t be turned into Following Experiences Appreciating Reality. Now that is my kind of FEAR!

So as you go through your day today and into tomorrow, face your FEARs, follow those experiences and appreciate the reality of those seeds of a new life that you are creating for yourself. You Deserve it! Now go make it happen! I will see you at the top and look forward to swapping our NEW FEAR stories because that deserves to be the New Normal.

Your fellow NEW FEAR Normal friend,

Return to Happiness: Great Friends are in it for the Long Haul

Today’s post is a guest post from a dear friend of mine Ryan John Phillips, creator of Return To Happiness. I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan at the beginning of this year and he is one of those friends that when you meet it feels like you have known them forever! Please take a look at the great things Ryan is doing in the world and enjoy his guest post today.
Friends are in it for the long haul

Friends are in it for the long haul

What would we do without “true” friends in our lives? I know my friends and family make up my world. What is a true friend? A true friend is a person who is in your life, that loves you unconditionally with no judgement. We all go through experiences and tests in life and it’s the people that stay by your side (no matter what) that are to be cherished and held in the highest ranks of friendship. Being a true friend back is also a very important factor in the growth of any relationship. It’s also very important not to dump too many of your issues onto friends for the benefit of their own well being. There’s such a thing as energy “givers” and “takers.” You know the people that drain you sometimes because their paradigms are stuck in negative thought patters. Our duty as friends is to help elevate, and inspire to bring out the best in others. Our own actions is what immediately draws people to us in the first place and they don’t always have to come through the words we speak, instead by the deeds we perform. I’ve been guilty in my past of flash judgments and putting down others, but ask yourself what good that does for you and the other person? How does it make your body and mind feel? Not very good in most cases and it really serves no purpose either as everything is reciprocated back through the law of compensation. My idealism’s have changed a lot in my thirties on what the true meaning of this word we call friendship is. I just do my best to be present and give good advice. When we sow good deeds to others in the form of being a great friend the reward is one that can’t be matched by anything. It’s a great to have like beings laughing joyously and also to share tears as well. That’s what makes true friendship real and so worth while. I’m sure you have one friend that sticks out in mind that is your rock. Do both of yourselves a favor today and tell he or she how much you care about them and make today one of joy, bliss and love.

God Bless RJP.

Find out what you do well then find a way to do that for the rest of your life.

What do you do well?

Find out what you do well then find a way to do that for the rest of your life. Sticky note for today:

Find out what you do WELL then find a way to do that for the rest of your life.

Yesterday I had an amazing meeting with 2 leaders making a difference in our school system. One was telling a story about a young woman, from a tough neighborhood and school that had been receiving D’s and F’s on her report card in high school. Their organization had gone in with a health program and the on-site coordinator and this young woman really connected on a mentor-mentee basis. It was in that class that the student received A’s across the board. This program was assisting students to find out what they did well and encouraged them to go after their dreams. This student ended up getting a scholarship after a panel interview to go to culinary school.

How POWERFUL is that!

What our school system deemed as a child who was below average in school found something, was encouraged and guided toward the thing that she was passionate about and she went after it!

What do you do well? What are you passionate about? What would you do if time and money were no object…what would you be doing tomorrow? What is your hobby? What would you be doing the rest of your life if you got paid for it or not? Whatever that is (and you may deserve to practice “dreaming” again) do it, start it, pick it back up again, do it in your free time, in your spare time and who knows…it may just become your new profession.

Dream BIG my friends!

Shay

H.A.R.T. Balloon Release does not tolerate bullying!

0

Do you know what is happening in your local community?

A great friend of mine introduced me to an event that was happening at the local State College, Sacramento State, and asked if I would like to attend.

Sure, what are we supporting?

IMAG0514

This is what she sent me…

H.A.R.T. Balloon Release

As human beings, we subconsciously keep a record of wrongs that has been done to us in the past. The act of holding a grudge is a habit by human nature; unaware of the negative effect it can have in life.

The H.A.R.T Balloon Release event is purposed for the public to take a step toward becoming a community that will not tolerate bullying. Prior to the main event of releasing the H.A.R.T. balloons, the public is welcome to stop by the Have H.A.R.T. booth to write something he or she desires to let go of. Whether it is a specific name, a personal reflection, or a negative memory, the idea is to identify an unhealthy resentment and have a physical written form of it..

Those who participate will be asked to return to the booth at 3pm, tie their piece of paper to a balloon, and release it along with all the other attendees. Releasing the balloon symbolizes being free of the written issue and moving on in life without any burdens.

SOLD! I am sooo In!

shay and alexis balloon release

Not only am I about supporting an awesome group of young, purpose driven individuals who rally together for the good of human kind but to have an opportunity for me to also release things that burden me is right up my alley.

So off we went to the Sac State campus, ready to write down our burdens, connect with like-minded individuals and bring awareness to those around us. There was probably 50+ balloons and over 100 people in attendance on the quad that afternoon.

Messages written, tied onto the balloons and ready for lift off!

IMAG0521

It was an amazing feeling to physically write down (getting it out of your head, onto paper) a fear, set back, something that is holding you back and/or whatever it is you are wanting to release, tie it to a balloon,  LET IT GO, and watch it float away. The feeling I had afterwards was incredibly a sense of calm, ease and by the time we got back in our car to head home I was full of life and energy…bouncing in the car to the music and being silly. It was a symbolic gesture that had an emotional and physical release for me and one “tool” I had forgotten was so powerful.

My hope for sharing this with you today is to open your eyes to other “tools” of assisting you to release things in your world that are no longer serving you. Whether it be a balloon release with the community just as we did (feel free to create your own group too!), writing it down on paper and burning it (remember safety first), or connecting with a coach/councilor/mentor/friend there are many options. Also there are many resources (we heard about this from www.Sacramento365.com ) locally that can inform you of events and ways to be involved in your community.

Wishing you all the best on this beautiful day and never stop working on you!

Super Bowl XLVII in 2013

Super Bowl XLVII in 2013

For some, yesterday’s Super Bowl was a sad day. Many fans really would have wished the referees didn’t miss that call, would have thrown a flag or some other countless mishaps that occurred in the game. For me, I am not the biggest football fan. However yesterday was not about football for me. It was about spending time with my family, friends, meeting new people and having fellowship (I was hoping for some awesome Super Bowl commercials as well :-) ). The day started out with a great family breakfast, a trip to drop off some custom-made football cookies to my mom that my sis-in-law and I made the day before, then back to my brother’s house to prepare some food and await for the guests to arrive. Friends came in and out throughout the day bringing with them love, laughter, experiences, life updates and hopefully leaving a little better than when they showed up.

Sometimes we deserve to take a little time out to put ourselves in experiences that may be outside our comfort zone or in an activity that we may not “enjoy” however if we choose to get past the pain and/or annoyance of the event we can experience the benefit of the people you get to meet! This usually tends to be much better than expected. I know for me I had the opportunity to offer some of my knowledge and skill, open the door to take a look at a few books I have been reading and suggest to other which I feel will really assist them in their lives (The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts
was one of those book recommendations). This is part of what I love to do, assisting people. So even though I didn’t know a whole lot of what was going on in the game, the names of the players and why the power outage occurred, I did learn from a few people who started to explain things to me, I did get to offer some guidance and suggestions and throughout the day…laughed and smiled a whole lot!

Thank you for an amazing Super bowl Sunday!

Light and Love,
Shay Wheat

Just because you ask for help… doesn't mean you failed.

Just because you ask for help… doesn’t mean you failed.

I recently had the opportunity to ask my network, my community, friends and loved ones for some help and assistance.  I was in a moment of emotional growth.

What exactly does that mean Shay?

Frankly…I was balling my eyes out!

Now in the past I would have just pulled out my journal or notebook paper, start writing and processing the feelings and emotions.  This time however it was different. I have been working very diligently on opening my heart more.  In this heart space there is no room for ego, drama, and negativity thus me reaching out to my community and asking for some extra love as I was hurting so deeply is no longer seen as a weakness for me, whereas before I thought I failed if I couldn’t figure it out on my own.  I no longer feel I must (nor do I desire) to sit in a room by myself and figure it out on my own. Now by connecting with your friends and community I’m not saying call ALL your friends up and start replaying the emotional story over and over but a few people are fine or you can simply ask (perhaps text, being that we are in an age of technology) something similar to this, “I don’t need to talk but if you could send me some good love and vibes right now I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. :-)”. This worked well for me, one: it was getting late, two: I was crying hard and didn’t feel like explaining anything to anyone, three: my community is very loving and willing to help each other when we require it, no matter what, and four: I just required a little “love backup”, not anyone to “fix me” just loving support…that’s what I asked for and that is exactly what I got!

The responses I received were “Absolutely”, “Of Course”, “Done Deal”, and “My Pleasure”.

Just knowing that I don’t always have to be the strong one is very comforting. I can allow myself to “water my growth” (that’s what I call crying) and know that I have people who will send me love as I do my work on me and that I am not alone.

The important thing to remember is to reach out. If I didn’t reach out, no one would know to send me that extra burst of love when I really required it and I don’t feel I would have been able to heal as fast without it.

Remember we are all emotional human beings that have trials, tribulations and adversities. No one person is “strong enough” to handle it all on their own. That’s why and how we connect with the people we connect with, so we can help each other when the going gets tough.  Don’t let your pride and ego get in the way of your healing. Who knows, it might actually open a door for you that you may never would have thought of or make a connection with someone who will alter the course of your life for the better. However, for the potential for something like that to occur, you must let down your guard, be your true authentic self and open up that heart space.

Thank you to those in my community who answered my request for extra love that night.

I appreciate you!

Much love and gratitude,

Shay Wheat

Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today I challenge you. I challenge you to step into the sunshine, to “Go for it” as the sticky below from Chris Teehee suggests. You are worth it and the world deserves to see you shine. It is when you shine that you unconsciously give others the power within themselves to shine as well. It is a ripple effect that starts when you decide to Stand Up And Lead for yourself, for the power and passion you have within to make a difference for you and thus the world at large. It starts with one, why not you?
