Sticky Note of the Day: “Dreams don’t come true because a person does something well once and a while…Dreams come true when someone performs with excellence day after day.” -John Maxwell

So really John, what you are saying is doing something consistently, everyday, no matter how small, is better than something big every now and then. Guess the way I look at it is “eat an apple a day vs 30 apples in one day!” (Whew that would be a TON of apples if you did it all in one day). Okay I get it.

Mr. Maxwell also speaks about how he makes sure he does 5 things, just 5 everyday. Rain or shine, holidays, birthdays, weekends, everyday, 5 things to assist him in his goals, dreams, aspirations and development of himself and his leadership. Would you like to know what he does?

John Maxwell’s Rule of 5:

1. Reads

2. Files his ideas

3. Asks Questions

4. Thinks

5. Writes

That’s it. They aren’t huge. They aren’t hard but over time it adds up…BIG TIME! He has been doing this for years and it has become a habit. He is someone who performs with excellence day after day in these 5 key areas. After knowing this it makes sense how to date he has written more than 60 books and has been featured multiple times in SUCCESS Magazine, not to mention all of his speaking engagements and training new trainers.

How does this fit into your world? What 5 things or even 1, 2, 3 things would you commit to do, everyday if it meant you could turn your dreams into reality? Are your dreams worth it? It reminds me of the old saying “It you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” These 5 things for John Maxwell are part of his plan to achieve what he desires in this lifetime.

Can’t think of anything at the moment? Use John’s 5 things. It works, just tailor it to you in terms of what to read, filing ideas/quotes/thoughts/messages/etc. Make it your own, do it consistently and in the direction of your dreams then watch them become reality.

Easy to do, easy not to do. How bad do you want it?

Dream Big my friends,

Shay

Today’s post is a guest post from a dear friend of mine Ryan John Phillips, creator of Return To Happiness. I had the pleasure of meeting Ryan at the beginning of this year and he is one of those friends that when you meet it feels like you have known them forever! Please take a look at the great things Ryan is doing in the world and enjoy his guest post today.
Friends are in it for the long haul

Friends are in it for the long haul

What would we do without “true” friends in our lives? I know my friends and family make up my world. What is a true friend? A true friend is a person who is in your life, that loves you unconditionally with no judgement. We all go through experiences and tests in life and it’s the people that stay by your side (no matter what) that are to be cherished and held in the highest ranks of friendship. Being a true friend back is also a very important factor in the growth of any relationship. It’s also very important not to dump too many of your issues onto friends for the benefit of their own well being. There’s such a thing as energy “givers” and “takers.” You know the people that drain you sometimes because their paradigms are stuck in negative thought patters. Our duty as friends is to help elevate, and inspire to bring out the best in others. Our own actions is what immediately draws people to us in the first place and they don’t always have to come through the words we speak, instead by the deeds we perform. I’ve been guilty in my past of flash judgments and putting down others, but ask yourself what good that does for you and the other person? How does it make your body and mind feel? Not very good in most cases and it really serves no purpose either as everything is reciprocated back through the law of compensation. My idealism’s have changed a lot in my thirties on what the true meaning of this word we call friendship is. I just do my best to be present and give good advice. When we sow good deeds to others in the form of being a great friend the reward is one that can’t be matched by anything. It’s a great to have like beings laughing joyously and also to share tears as well. That’s what makes true friendship real and so worth while. I’m sure you have one friend that sticks out in mind that is your rock. Do both of yourselves a favor today and tell he or she how much you care about them and make today one of joy, bliss and love.

God Bless RJP.

From 16 yr old Ashley Monroe: My Message to Everyone at My School: ‘You’re Beautiful’

1

I recently saw this AMAZING post of a young woman who is making a difference in her school by simply using Sticky Notes and a wonderfully positive message…see orginal post here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ashley-monroe/my-message-to-everyone-at_b_2563941.html

From Ashley Monroe.
16-year-old from Massachusetts

This is a picture of something I did at my school last year. I wrote out 1,986 sticky notes. Each said, “You’re beautiful,” and I stuck one to every locker in my entire school.
r-YOUREBEAUTIFUL-large570

It was almost unbearable to listen people put themselves down every day. They would say things like, “I’m ugly” or “No one likes me.” To me, that wasn’t the truth. For at least one day, I wanted everyone to know that someone thought they were beautiful.

It took me over 6 hours to write all of the notes, and an hour to stick them with the help of one other friend. It wasn’t my original plan to tell people that I had done it, but word got out after I had been called to the Dean’s office. They found me through the school’s video surveillance system.

After being sat down in the office and explaining everything that had happened, there was talk of a possible 3-day suspension from school. When I went back to my classroom, my teacher asked me what they said, and I told her. This is how the rest of the students found out. Throughout the entire day word of the possible suspension circulated, and a group of students came together and formed a petition. They passed the petition around school.

In the end, it had over 600 signatures, from both students AND faculty.

It amazed me that people would do that for me. For one day, I truly felt beautiful. And for one day, I managed to make every other kid in my school feel beautiful, as well.

A few days later, after the incident was not as new, a complete stranger approached me. What she said to me was shocking.

“That day, I was planning on killing myself. I had given up completely on society, but because of you I didn’t. You gave me hope. Thank you.”

What’s more amazing than that is the fact that today she has become one of my best friends.

Thank you Ashley for being a leader in your school and for changing the lives of many.
You are the epitome of a “Stand Up And Lead” Leader.
Much Love,
Shay

Super Bowl XLVII in 2013

Super Bowl XLVII in 2013

For some, yesterday’s Super Bowl was a sad day. Many fans really would have wished the referees didn’t miss that call, would have thrown a flag or some other countless mishaps that occurred in the game. For me, I am not the biggest football fan. However yesterday was not about football for me. It was about spending time with my family, friends, meeting new people and having fellowship (I was hoping for some awesome Super Bowl commercials as well :-) ). The day started out with a great family breakfast, a trip to drop off some custom-made football cookies to my mom that my sis-in-law and I made the day before, then back to my brother’s house to prepare some food and await for the guests to arrive. Friends came in and out throughout the day bringing with them love, laughter, experiences, life updates and hopefully leaving a little better than when they showed up.

Sometimes we deserve to take a little time out to put ourselves in experiences that may be outside our comfort zone or in an activity that we may not “enjoy” however if we choose to get past the pain and/or annoyance of the event we can experience the benefit of the people you get to meet! This usually tends to be much better than expected. I know for me I had the opportunity to offer some of my knowledge and skill, open the door to take a look at a few books I have been reading and suggest to other which I feel will really assist them in their lives (The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts
was one of those book recommendations). This is part of what I love to do, assisting people. So even though I didn’t know a whole lot of what was going on in the game, the names of the players and why the power outage occurred, I did learn from a few people who started to explain things to me, I did get to offer some guidance and suggestions and throughout the day…laughed and smiled a whole lot!

Thank you for an amazing Super bowl Sunday!

Light and Love,
Shay Wheat

mardi gra mask

Masks…Wear for fun or for a Lifetime?

0

mardi gra mask

The other day I was celebrating my good friend’s birthday and we went into a costume store to try on some Masks. We were having a really good time trying on ones with feathers, ones you tie behind your head, ones you hold onto, ones with tons of sparkle, different colors, etc. All of which gave us different looks depending on the mask we tried on. Later that evening after looking at our pictures and remembering the fun filled day, I got to thinking about people wearing their own masks in everyday life.

Have you ever met someone who when you met them they were fun, outgoing, nice, sociable  (their “going out” mask) then when you start to get to REALLY know them it seems like that mask flies off and you start to see their true colors? That recently happened to one of my clients. To the world her friend treated everyone one way and then behind closed doors would talk and gossip and demean the very person they just saw! It threw my client for a loop! She didn’t know 1) how to deal with this person now with this information and 2) if she really wanted to still be associated with them now that she saw the Mask come off.

Let’s take it from a different perspective. Are there Masks that you may wear in your own life? Perhaps you are a collector of Masks, both figuratively and/or literally. Why do you feel that is? What is it about the Masks that comfort you or why do you feel drawn to them? In my own life, my family had a wall of Masks, literally from all over the world. They were beautiful, exotic, and each had their own story associated with them. It wasn’t until things got “rocky” that an “Ah-Ha” moment showed up and the Masks were a part of the way things were dealt with and portrayed.  To the outside world it was one way, peaceful and serene, on the inside it was a rollercoaster full of huge ups and downs that created weird actions and responses that never made any sense. It wasn’t until the literal masks on the wall were taken a look at that the figurative Masks changed and started to be removed. I feel that sometimes we may require the Masks to keep us safe but I also feel that we are here to be our true, authentic self and in order to really be in that moment, that present moment, we must take off all the Masks. I know for myself that when I am my true authentic self, yes I have moments of sheer brilliance right next to moments of feeling like I want to fall on the floor and roll into a ball. That’s part of the human experience. We are all human, experiencing the world through our own lenses. Some of us have many Masks and it seems like we keep collecting more, others of us are peeling off the Masks and dealing with them one by one.

If you are one of the later, I congratulate you on doing the work. It isn’t always easy but knowing what has transpired in my life after the removal of Masks…I wouldn’t change it for the world. It is well worth it! Keep it up and know that there are people who love you regardless of which Mask you are working to remove right now and others who will probably leave your world because they choose to keep their Mask on and you just will no longer be able to relate to one another. That’s okay because the direction you are heading and the people who will show up in their place will be worth the work.

I applauded you. Give yourself credit. You deserve to be Mask Free!

With Love & Gratitude,

Shay Wheat

journey is the reward - taoist proverb

The Journey Is the Reward

0

Have you noticed, as you start to do more personal development work, that friends and relationships may no longer work the way they used to. The time you had together fit then but no longer seems to fit now. That’s okay. People come into our lives for days, weeks, months, perhaps a season or for a lifetime. The goal is to learn the lesson and accept the blessings for the time you spend together.  You may also notice that the universe will test you. Test you to see if what you say you no longer want and what you want are in alignment with which direction you take when given the choice and opportunity to choose what you did in the past or choose the new path and new direction you say you want to go in.

It is also very interesting to watch this transpire as a coach because I get to see this happen in my clients world and I too get an opportunity choose the direction I will head (you can’t teach that what you don’t know and don’t experience, right!?). I too get to choose which relationships I will keep, who will fall away and who may re-enter my world down the line. Yes I am a coach that does talk the talk and walk the walk. I am on a journey just as you are and recently a very new friend came into my world, however he is one of those connections where you feel like you have known each other FOREVER! I feel this picture he sent sums it all up quite nicely “The Journey is the Reward”.

Enjoy your Journey my friends.

In Gratitude,

Shay Wheat

dory from finding nemo

Nemo, Upbringings and Comparisions

1
  1. What does Dory from the Disney movie “Finding Nemo” have to do with human being upbringings and comparisons?
I love sitting down with people with different backgrounds  and upbringings. It fascinates me to learn about their path and journey to where they are today. Yesterday I had a fantastic meeting with Jenifer M. and she mentioned something she has learned that really is quite impactful that I asked if I could share it.
“Don’t compare your insides to others outsides”.
Love that! Why do we compare ourselves to others? We have no idea what path and journey they are on and if they are “living their truth”. Things might look all fine and dandy on the outside but I’ve realized, through my coaching and training practice, that we all have things we are working on…myself included. :-)
So in the words of the great “Dory” from the movie Finding Nemo,

  Well Said Mr. Jobs.
I find it interesting for me personally that every time I tend to stray away from my purpose and don’t follow my Intuition things arise that I really don’t want, but when I listen to my heart and my intuition everything aligns and opportunities present themselves that normally would not occur. It takes courage, but I believe you can make it happen for yourself as well. :-)

This reminds me of a combination of two great men I have had the honor of knowing in my world. Both own their own business and do just as the note suggests. A wonderful lesson for us all to take with us as we go throughout our days.
