Celebrate Quirks with other weirdos in your tribe

0

celebrate quirks “When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of “Me, too!” be sure to cherish them. Because those weirdos are your tribe.”

I LOVE this saying. It is so true. I find that when I am weird, child-like, silly, don’t have a care in the world and am enjoying where I am at in life…aka being my true authentic self, these “quirks” show up. Things like bursting out into song or dance or a thought or saying will come flying out of my mouth. It is in these moments that allow others to let their guard down and join you. Being authentic together and at that moment you really do feel a heart connection, a string that ties you to one another. Instant rapport and connection happens in that instance. This is an indication of someone else in your “tribe”. A common denominator, an open door to actually “see” each other like they talk about in the movie “Avatar”. (Great movie, if you haven’t seen it, rent it tonight!)

An example of what I am talking about. Music. I love music that has a great beat, catchy phrase, underlying message, etc. I have been known to be producing and running an event, getting things organized and set up, the AV guy is playing some “set up” music and all of the sudden…I will sing a line of the song. My client starts busting up laughing! “I thought I was the only one who does that!” She is a fellow “weirdo” who is a part of my tribe.

Music again, this time at a my boyfriend’s company picnic. A group of chemists and engineers and me…so not a chemist or engineer! Heck in my daily world I am so far from science and more on the other side of the spectrum looking at meditation, how thoughts become things, using essential oils and homeopathic methods; how am I going to relate to very science and math people. Remember, this is the first time meeting the majority of them. While my boyfriend is off in a Bocce tournament (which he did end up winning, yay honey!) I head over to a picnic table of his co-workers surrounding the Dessert table. As we discuss which dessert I had brought it then seemed like all of a sudden we got on the topic of songs, popular music videos and television shows like “GLEE”. Then we are singing lyrics of different songs. Mash-ups of our own. It is getting louder. Other people from the group are looking over at us, shaking their heads. I get a text from my boyfriend “You okay?” My reply “Yes! We are singing! :-)” His response back, “I know, we can hear you. LOL” I just found more of my “weirdo tribe” and we were having a good ‘ol time.

Your tribe is EVERYWHERE. Although if you never open up and be your authentic self, they will walk right on by. The ones that do walk on by when you are being authentic, that’s okay too. It is always my hope they find their own “weirdos”.

Happy Weirdo Seeking!

Much Love,

Shay

Recent story was just brought to my attention.

A couple of 8th grade, young women, decided to make a difference in the lives of their fellow students at school.

Take a look at this video:

A Simple act of kindness gone viral.
The story was even picked up on a local news station.

What can you do to pay it forward?

There is power in a sticky note.

Help me share their story.

Many Blessings,

Face Your Fears

Face Your Fears…It’s the New Normal

Face Your Fears

Face Your Fears

“When I get scared, my 1st instinct is to run away or shut my eyes real tight or both at the same time. But if you run around with your eyes closed, not only do you bump into walls a lot, you miss out on seeing some pretty amazing stuff. So what I am learning is to face my fears head on. I don’t run anymore and I don’t cover my eyes.  I am embracing my fears as they are the seeds of a new life. They bring new joys and new dreams. When I look my fears straight in the eye…I see… My FUTURE.”

- Character Goldie Clemmons from TV show The New Normal

Love that quote!

Probably because I can relate to it, have experienced it and to this day work on facing my fears head on with my eyes open. It isn’t easy but the BEST experiences I have had thus far have come from doing things that scared me and were “outside my box”.

“I am embracing my fears as they are the seeds of a new life.” WOW! How powerful! Just imagine if you were to shift your thoughts to embrace your fears and see them as seeds of a new life. How would your life change? What if you did it for a month, a week or even a day? Can you imagine what experiences you would have? If you think of the old adage “Fear=False Evidence Appearing Real” then who’s to say that Fear can’t be turned into Following Experiences Appreciating Reality. Now that is my kind of FEAR!

So as you go through your day today and into tomorrow, face your FEARs, follow those experiences and appreciate the reality of those seeds of a new life that you are creating for yourself. You Deserve it! Now go make it happen! I will see you at the top and look forward to swapping our NEW FEAR stories because that deserves to be the New Normal.

Your fellow NEW FEAR Normal friend,

Shay Wheat

excuses are well planned lies

Don’t Try…Do!

0

The theme with a few of my clients recently seemed to stem around “try” and this is my return thought:

If you are taking action, even a little bit, everyday, you are getting closer and closer to your dreams. So in my book that is more than trying, that is doing. Give yourself credit for doing, not trying.

yoda try not do or do not there is no try
To quote Yoda “NO! Try Not! Do or Do Not, There is no try.”

Maybe it is just me but I seem to have an adverse reaction when I hear the word Try.  I will try and make it. I heard someone tried something like that and they failed. I try and I try and I try….

Ah! Stop Trying and start Doing!

Try isn’t a very empowering word is it? It feels weak and perhaps just a nice way of saying NO or an “easy” way to have an excuse. What is an excuse?
I recently saw this picture that sums up the physical reaction I feel.

excuses are well planned lies

Stop lying to yourself and to the ones you try with.
Whenever I hear try from someone it is pretty much a “No” in my book and if they show up, or come through then it is a pleasant surprise! Otherwise I don’t expect whatever they are trying” to do will actually come to fruition.

So how do we change our language to not incorporate such a weak word, that really doesn’t give us power and essentially is a nice way of saying “no”, aka not speaking our truth and essentially is an excuses or Lie?

1. If you really want to see how often you say the word “try“, keep a piece of paper with you and for a week (or maybe you will get the lesson in a day) every time you hear the word try and every time you hear yourself say try mark it down on the paper. One column for you and one column for hearing the word from others.

2. Now that you are aware of the word try, catch yourself either before you say it or right after you say it and replace it with a new word, such as “will” or “will not”. Yes you will be forced to make a decision here. Instead of “I will try to make the game tonight”, change to “I (will/will not) make it to the game tonight”. If you can’t quite make it there start with “As of right now it does not appear I will make the game, but if anything changes I will let you know”.  Essentially you are almost saying the same thing as try but this way is being more upfront that you are leaning towards the “will not” vs “will” show up. Granted if you can go straight to “will or will not” both you and the other person in the situation will know exactly where you stand.

Now you are not a horrible person if you say try but I would encourage you to test yourself as well as start building the intestinal fortitude to speak your truth. You don’t have to go to every event, and help everyone with everything. By taking try out of your vocabulary it forces you to make decision. When you make decisions you are no longer “wishy-washy”, you have strength and direction. Trust me, people’s feelings won’t be as hurt if you say you won’t do something vs if you say you will try and then don’t. You will be more loved and respected because people will know where you stand and you will know that for your self as well. There is strength in that knowledge.

Looking forward to enjoying a world that removes the word TRY and speaks their truth.

Now go out, take action and make things happen!

All the best,

Shay

” Time will never give you the window of “perfect time”. But it will always give you a window to be perfect at any “time”. – Daymond John, CEO, FUBU, The Collection, Branding Expert, Author, Shark Tank investor

This quote and sticky note below really do drive the point home. If you want to make something happen in your life the only one who can make it so is….YOU! So what are you waiting for? No one else is going to do it for you, they have to do it for themselves as well! The time is Perfect, the Time is now!

Ah to inspire and be a positive impact on someone’s life or to take that impact and create a negative reaction. Choices, Choices, Choices. We are always in Choice.

don't allow insecurity or indecisiveness to hold you back

“The only courage you ever need is the courage to live your heart’s desire.” – Oprah Winfrey, Chairman, Harpo, Inc. 2010 Minerva Award Recipient

This note so speaks to me. I have noticed in my life when I am indecisive and insecure I am stuck, I am unable to move forward, everything seems like it is in slow motion and frankly, it sucks! Even with a background and degree in Psychology and all my work in personal development, I am still human and still get stuck. However I have noticed that the more I work on the “Mind Chatter” the easier it is for me to be aware when it is starting to occur and the faster I am able to stop being stuck and indecisive. I remember hearing one time that “Whether you decide to make a decision or hold off…it is still a decision.” Wow! Anyone else ever “put things off” so you can decide later? When I heard that I had a “light bulb moment” or as Oprah would say “an Ah-ha moment”. So now I Choose to make a decision when it arises right then and there because procrastinating will only make matters worse. Trust me, when you do make the decision, especially if it is a tough one, you will feel so much better after you choose and move forward.
What types of decisions have you made recently that after you made the decision felt like a weight was lifted off your shoulders?

Ah yes, Opportunities. They are all around us but you could be asking yourself and abundance of what kind of opportunities? Opportunites could be for work, business, your heart’s desire, an opportunity to give back to the community, to add value to someone’s life via a smile or simple “Hi”. It depends on what you are “LOOKING” for.

What we focus on expands, thus if your focus is on lack and fear you will find an abundance of such. On the flip side if your focus is on wealth, abundance, love, faith, trust, business opportunities, then that is what you shall find.
Let me give you an example. Let’s say you are looking to buy a new car…perhaps a Black BMW. You look them up online, find the make and model you like, save a picture of it on your computer and go on with the rest of your evening. The next day you are driving to work and what do you see? A Black BMW! Cool! You get to work and in the parking lot…there is another one! Lunch break in the staff room and you over hear someone speaking about the BMW commercial they just saw. Coincidence? Perhaps, but most likely it is because your focus changed. Yesterday you could care less, today you are so excited about possibly buying a new Black BMW and you start to see the abundance of opportunities around you to see them.

The abundance is there, the question is…will you go after it?
